The European Commission has announced plans to increase support for space research, innovation and industrialisation, but the space industry is accusing it of targeting markets that won’t be accessible to European players.
The Commission published its “vision” for the European space economy on June 25, aiming to position the EU as a leader in the global space economy, which is projected to be worth $1.8 trillion by 2035.
“Limited investment and growth funding, complex procurement models, a need for better coordination at EU level, slow time to market and a siloed approach between space and defence, are hindering the sector’s potential for further growth,” the document says.
