Nickel Institute appoints David Butler as President

The Nickel Institute is pleased to announce that David Butler, currently Executive Director & General Counsel, has been appointed President, effective 1 June 2015.


David succeeds Tim Aiken who retires from the Nickel Institute after 25 years of association.  Tim will return to South Africa and continue to work with the Nickel Institute in a part-time consulting role.

Nickel Institute Chairman, Robert Morris said, “Tim has made a significant contribution to the Nickel Institute for many years, first as an active member, then as Chairman and latterly as President. We are glad that we will still be able to draw on his knowledge and experience. We look forward to the continuing contribution of David in his new role as President and are confident that the NI’s very positive momentum will continue under his leadership.”

David Butler has been associated with the Nickel Institute for over 25 years, firstly in his role as external legal counsel and Corporate Secretary and since 2013 as Executive Director & General Counsel within the Nickel Institute.

He joined the Nickel Institute from Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP where he was a Partner advising Fortune 500 clients, private companies and trade associations. David has also served on boards of public, private, and not-for-profit corporations.

David Butler is a graduate in Economics from McGill University, in Law from the University of Toronto and is a Member of the Ontario Bar in Canada. He has a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent (TM) Lawyer Rating - the highest rating available - and was named as a top Canadian Lawyer in 2012 by the Lawyers Weekly's "In House Counsel Magazine". David is a member of a variety of professional associations and is an active community volunteer.
