Licensing opportunity

A new turbine technology that could significantly lower the cost of tidal power generation is available for license. The Energy Systems Research Team at Strathclyde University in Scotland has developed a contra-rotating marine current turbine with integral power take off, enabling more energy to be generated from waves, while reducing mechanical complexity.

The developers says that compared to existing turbines of similar dimensions contra-rotating rotors are more efficient, yield a higher power output, and reduce the environmental impact associated with the downstream disturbance of the seabed.
