The Centre of Excellence in Metrology for Micro and Nano Technologies (CEMMNT), based at Loughborough University, UK, has received a £250,000 grant from the East Midlands Development Agency to help SMEs in the region apply metrology, surface analysis and systems engineering technologies.

CEMMNT will provide the expertise of specialists from its industry partners BAE Systems, National Physical Laboratory and QinetiQ. There will be a particular focus on health care and transport equipment industries.

Among other activities, CEMMNT will hold workshops, surgeries and training events for local companies. There are huge benefits of measurement and characterisation at key stages of product development and manufacturing life cycles, particularly for micro and nano technologies.
