Collaboration deal

Irish technology commercialisation company Technology from Ideas (TfI) has extended its collaboration with the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUI Galway) for a further 10 years. TfI will continue to invest in the development of intellectual property emerging from the university’s research laboratories, turning concepts into investment ready technologies.

TfI specialises in evaluation, protection and development of intellectual property emerging from universities across the UK and Ireland. It says the continued collaboration with NUI Galway will enable it to exploit the university’s growing intellectual property and technology portfolios, which are ready for partnering, licensing and/or joint ventures.

Dan Richardson, Managing Director of TfI, said: “NUIG was our first partner back in 2006 and we’re delighted with the close working relationship we have built with the TTO team. This extended agreement is recognition of the benefits that TfI can bring to supporting TTOs in their commercialisation activities. The projects we have invested in at NUI Galway are in the ICT and renewable energy sectors, and have great potential for the future.”

Professor Nicholas Canny, Vice President for Research at NUI Galway, said: “We have been delighted with the support that TfI have provided the TTO Director and his team. They have accelerated opportunities that would have been difficult for the TTO to develop on their own, demonstrating the value of bringing in external partners when required. We had no hesitation in extending our agreement with TfI and look forward to fruitful collaboration over the coming years.”
