Uppsala-based ScandiDos has received SEK 10 million (about €1.06 million), from Industrifonden, in Stockholm, to develop its cancer treatment quality control equipment that delivers radiation, at exact dosages, to precise locations in the body. ScandiDos’s system allows cancer therapies to be tailored to individual patients requiring specific treatment regimes.
ScandiDos’s proprietary Delta4 system measures radiation dosages before and during each radiotherapy session. It has been on the market since 2006 in Asia, the US and Europe, and several private investors including Industrifonden are taking part in the financial round aiming to raise a total of SEK 15 million.
Yvonne Petersson, of Industrifonden, said: “ScandiDos’ equipement ensures the treatment is given in the right way, which makes it more effective with fewer side effects. This saves both time and money. ScandiDos has already demonstrated that its products are well to the fore in advanced radiotherapy.”
Görgen Nilsson, of ScandiDos, said: “There is an acute need to monitor the quality of radiation therapy faster, so that more patients can be treated more quickly and thus reducing queues. With Industrifonden as a shareholder we are better placed to invest more resources in marketing Delta4 and also to accelerate the development of more products within this area.”
