The UK research charity the Carbon Trust will open an Algae Biofuels call for expressions of interest on 23 October.

The objective of the programme is to de-risk commercial investment in large-scale algae biofuels production via a coordinated and focussed programme of research and development. Over the next four to six years, the Carbon Trust will invest several million pounds in projects that aim to develop algal bioenergy systems that could provide low-cost and low-carbon biofuel feedstock, with little impact on land use, food prices and fresh water resources.

The strategy will be outlined at a launch event  in London on 23 October, which will provide a forum for attendees to generate inter-disciplinary and inter-organisational collaborations. There will also be the opportunity to discuss the call for expressions of interest with members of the Carbon Trust research and development management team
