Orthomimetics Ltd, a spin-out from Cambridge University’s joint venture with MIT, has received a £600,000 grant from the UK Technology Strategy Board to fund an R&D project that aims to improve joint tissue regeneration.

The project is based on the use of a combination cell therapy technique with Orthomimetics’ tissue specific 3-D scaffolds. The aim is to develop a complete range of treatments for cartilage, ligament and tendon repair in joints.

Orthomimetics will collaborate on the project with the Orthopaedic Research Unit, at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge and Devro plc, a supplier of medical grade collagen.

Orthomimetics specialises in the design, development, and manufacture of products for the treatment of sports injuries, trauma other conditions that affect knees, ankles and other articular joints. It was formed in 2005 as the first spin-out venture from the Cambridge-MIT Institute.
