Accentus Medical wins London Technology Fund 2008 Grand Prix

UKAEA spin-out Accentus Medical, an orthopaedic and medical device provider based in Oxford, has scooped the Grand Prix and Life Sciences sector prize of the the London Technology Fund Competition 2008, winning up to £1 million of investment and £100,000 for training and advice.

Accentus Medical is a provider of advanced technological processes and products, including surface coatings and modifications designed to enhance implant fixation, promote bone in-growth and reduce the risk of post-operative infection.

The company was pronounced the overall winner on 29 October 2008, after competing against 40 companies during an eight-month programme of training and advice aimed at preparing them for investment and helping them build relationships with technology corporates.

David McMeekin, of the Competition, said: “We are delighted that so many exciting young technology companies in London were able to take part in the competition’s programme of training and advice. The standard of the finalists was very high and I congratulate Accentus on winning the Grand Prix and the winners of the individual sector awards for their achievements.”

Other winners included the top-ranked company in Information and Communication Technology was Office-Shadow, the Design and Engineering winner was Feed Me Bottles and the special Environment Award was won by the life science company Stabilitech.
