Forth Photonics Ltd of Edinburgh has completed its second round fundraising, with new investment of £6.1 million. The newly-raised funds are expected to take Forth Photonics’ first product through to full commercialisation in the US and Europe.

The company will use the money to commercialise its medical device, DySISTM (Dynamic Spectral Imaging System), the only medical device to use dynamic spectral imaging technology to assist in the detection of cervical cancer.

Clinical trials have shown that the use of DySIS significantly increases the sensitivity of pre-cancerous lesion detection compared with traditional technologies.

The funds will be used to launch and commercialise DySIS in the US, subject to clearance to market by the US Food & Drug Administration. They will also be used to continue to commercialise DySIS in Europe, where the device is CE marked, and to further develop the company’s product pipeline.
