Licensing opportunity

The Film Centre at the University of the West of Scotland, UK, is looking to license a cost-effective thin film coating that can alter the electrical, mechanical and/or optical properties for solid base materials such as scratch-resistant coatings for spectacles, anti-reflection coatings for lenses, transparent conducting coatings for flat-panel displays and low friction coatings for bearings.

The University of the West of Scotland Film Centre develops processes for thin films, the design and fabrication of thin film products, the characterisation of thin films and the dissemination of information about the applications of thin films.

The Film Centre’s hard coatings also have the benefit of increasing the lifetime of cutting, drilling and forming tools, and can be applied in light polarisation, reflection, transmission and absorption. Another application of oxygen and moisture barrier thin films their ability to increase shelf life of convenience foods as they are used to package foodstuffs.
