The Rector of Chalmers, Karin Markides, is this week visiting Spain as part of a delegation of twenty representatives from Swedish industry and research, in a trip arranged by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (IVA). The delegation includes the Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf.
Yesterday (23 September) Markides spoke about the development of sustainable urban futures as a mechanism for increasing integration between research, education and innovation. This is part of the vision of the Centre for Holistic Development of Sustainable Communities, which Chalmers, the University of Gothenburg and partners in the Greater Gothenburg region are developing.
“The Centre aims to act internationally and bring together knowledge from different areas. It is therefore of great interest and value to discuss these matters with researchers and representatives from Spain at an early stage. Spain is one of the European countries that has invested most in renewable energy and infrastructure in recent years,” Markides said.
The visit, known as the Royal Technology Mission, has been arranged regularly by the IVA since 1984 to promote an exchange of knowledge and create new contacts. Each time a specially selected group of representatives from Swedish industry and research takes part. This year the visit is focusing on investment in research and development and innovation as a basis for new companies and economic growth.
