Funding opportunity

Student entrepreneurs and start-ups in the UK and China have been invited to compete for £250,000 in funding in a competition being run by York University, University College London and China Innovation and Development Association UK.

The 21st Century China UK Entrepreneurship Competition will shortlist 32 teams that will compete to produce the best idea for a venture that promotes business ties between the two countries.

Chris Henshall, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for External Relations at York, said, “Our support for this competition is just one element of our strong commitment to fostering enterprise amongst our students and staff, and promoting links with China. We have formal partnerships with Nanjing, Peking and Zhejiang Universities. These support wide range of teaching and research collaborations, including a number of initiatives to promote student enterprise with Nanjing and Zhejiang”.

The competition is split into two strands, one for existing businesses and one for students.

In addition to the main prize for winning the grand final, the competing teams have the opportunity to win a share of more than £9,000 in prize money in earlier rounds.

Full details of the competition and how to enter can be found at http://www.chinaukchallenge.com.
