The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is the national supercomputing center in Spain. It specializes in High Performance Computing (HPC), and its mission is two-fold: to provide infrastructure and supercomputing services to European scientists, and to generate knowledge and technology to transfer to business and society
The BSC is a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence and a first level hosting member of the European research infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe). The BSC also manages the Spanish Supercomputing Network (RES).
As a research center, the BSC has more than 470 experts and R&D Professionals organized into four main research areas: Computer Sciences, Life Sciences, Earth Sciences and Computer Applications in Science and Engineering.
In the Computer Science area, our researchers are internationally recognised as experts in computer architecture and methods for making both supercomputer facilities and applications run more efficiently. We play an active role within the European HPC ecosystem, in which we are joining forces with different players for Europe to manufacture processors with European technology.
Another of our great strategic lines is precision Medicine. We are taking advantage of our long experience in research and bioinformatic technologies and our synergies with hospitals, research centers and IT and Bio companies to promote the development of a platform for precision medicine. The goal is to translate the knowledge generated in this matter into real benefits for patients.
We carry out our research in cooperation with numerous research centers and companies from all over the world. We are always open to new collaborations that help to advance knowledge and improve life quality, as well as boost industry competitiveness.
