The University of Twente is strengthening its collaboration with the Zwolle region. An important step in this regard is the new collaboration agreement with Perron038, the innovation centre for the manufacturing industry in Zwolle and the surrounding region.
Together with Windesheim University of Applied Sciences, the University of Twente (UT) will research how the institutes can link their technology knowledge and education to the activities at Perron038. The collaboration focuses on three important themes: education, lifelong learning and innovation. With this partnership, the three parties aren’t just strengthening each other, but also the Zwolle region as an innovative hotspot within the province of Overijssel.
The collaboration between education institutions and the manufacturing industry is central to this partnership. The unique combination of the scientific knowledge of the University of Twente and the practical applications at Perron038 will not only lead to new innovations, but also ensure accelerated knowledge sharing. This represents valuable development opportunities for both students and professionals in the region.
"Perron038 is a vibrant place full of creative and business activities, where talent and companies meet. UT simply had to jump on board. This step will improve our connection to talent and business in Zwolle." said Prof. Bart Koopman.
Boost for regional collaboration
The collaboration between UT and the Zwolle region aligns with the joint ambition to make the region a place where the manufacturing industry and education reinforce one another. By combining UT’s knowledge and Perron038’s network, the region will be even better prepared for future technological and societal challenges. This collaboration is increasingly taking shape, with a focus on sectors such as the manufacturing industry, healthcare technology, plastics and the energy transition. Various branches of government, organisations and companies are involved. Perron038 is the innovation centre for the manufacturing industry in the Spoorzone innovation district. New clusters are springing up based on the example set by Perron038.
"I emphasize the major importance of strong connections between education, research, and business. The presence of UT in Zwolle means we are bringing new knowledge to our region. The application of this knowledge in companies makes our economy even stronger. We need this to meet the challenges in areas such as digitalization and sustainability that we are facing as a city and as a region." said Paul Guldemond, Alderperson for the municipality of Zwolle.
Building the future together
The partnership between the University of Twente, Windesheim University of Applied Sciences and Perron038 represents a unique opportunity to further strengthen the connection between education, research and regional industry. This won’t only benefit the institutes involved, but also the innovation climate in Overijssel at large.
