Minority government promises €500 million to set up a National Agency for Disruptive Innovation
The Netherlands’ new government has promised to create a “Darpa-like” innovation agency, which would make it the latest European country to set up such a body.
On January 30, a three party coalition led by Rob Jetten, head of the pro-EU centrist D66 party, outlined its governing plans. These confirm that the government plans to establish a National Agency for Disruptive Innovation (NADI), as recommended in a major report on the country’s R&D future last December.
The coalition will “utilise the government's purchasing power to provoke disruptive innovations and offer an initial sales market through the so-called Darpa model,” the agreement says.
