EU-based university and research institute spin-outs generate billions in value, but still lag behind competitors

European university and research organisation spin-outs are creating more value than ever. But EU institutions are lagging behind the UK and Switzerland in the rankings, according to a new Dealroom report.
Dealroom’s top 10 list of European universities by spin-out value creation only includes two EU-based institutions: Technical University of Munich and Technical University of Denmark.
The rest of the top 10 comprises five UK and three Swiss universities, with the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge at the very top of the list.
The two UK universities benefit from links between their innovation ecosystems, generating “the critical mass of talent, research and investment to give the UK a unique opportunity to scale spin-outs faster and compete on the international stage,” says Andy Williams, chair of the Oxford-Cambridge Supercluster…
