EUA Board elections: Meet the nominees

EUA members will have the opportunity to elect three new Board members at the 2017 General Assembly, which will take place on the morning of 6 April before the start of the EUA Annual Conference, hosted by the University of Bergen in Norway.  

The new Board members will replace David Drewry, Gülay Dogu Barbarosoglu and Stefano Paleari, whose terms will be ending at the conference. The five nominees are as follows:

Paul Boyle is the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leicester in the UK. He has served as Chief Executive of the Economic and Social Research Council, the International Champion of Research Councils UK, and President of Science Europe. 

Hana Machková is the Rector of the University of Economics in Prague, Czech Republic. She is also the President of the Scientific Board of the University of Economics and Director of the French-Czech Institute of Management.

Michael Murphy is the Former President of University College Cork in Ireland. He has served as Vice-Chancellor of the National University of Ireland, Chair of the Irish Universities Association and Chair of Universities Ireland.

Giuseppe Novelli is the Rector of the University of Rome, Tor Vergata in Italy where he also serves as Professor of Human Genetics in the Department of Biopathology. Novelli is also the Vice President of the Conference of Italian University Rectors.

Thomas Wilhelmsson is the Chancellor of the University of Helsinki in Finland where he is also Professor of Civil and Commercial Law. Wilhelmsson has served as Vice Chair of the Finnish University Association and President of the Scandinavian University Association.

Registration is open for both the EUA General Assembly and Annual Conference. More information on the conference, which will take place from 6 to 7 April 2017 under the theme “Autonomy and freedom: The future sustainability of universities,” can be found on the event webpage. All documentation for the General Assembly will be available on the EUA extranet before the meeting.
