Funding opportunity

Tekes, Finland’s Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation, is launching a programme to help Finnish enterprises and researchers develop safety and security technologies.

The call for research proposals for the first year of the Technology Programme on Safety and Security opens in summer 2007 and closes in September/October. The programme will continue until 2012 with a total budget of €160 million. Tekes will grant €80 million in funding to R&D projects by enterprises, universities and research institutes, to be matched by €80 million in private sector funding.

The programme covers a wide range of topics, including information security, industrial production processes, transport and logistics, food safety, environmental monitoring and crisis management.

Tekes hopes the programme will create cross-technological networks between Finnish system developers, enterprises and authorities in the fields of safety and security. The public sector is a major client in this field, and one aim is to increase cooperation between private companies and the police, rescue services, border guards and health care authorities.
