Grand Est-Europe

Grand Est-Europe connects Eastern France, one of France’s most dynamic regions, to the EU institutions, and fosters cooperation on EU policies and EU-funded projects among the 23 regional and local authorities, universities and economic organisations it gathers.

Created in 2016, following the merger of the former regions of Alsace, Champagne-Ardenne and Lorraine, the Grand Est region is characterised by its strong European identity and willingness to cooperate at cross-border and European levels, which are the result of both its history and geography, being located at the border with Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Switzerland. Strasbourg, capital city of the Grand Est region and of the European Union, is home to various European institutions, especially the Seat of the European Parliament, where EU Commissioners and MEPs gather every month.

Grand Est itself stands out from other regions through its dynamic economic ecosystems in a wide array of sectors (especially automotive and railway industries, materials, machinery, health, and bio-economy) and the important role played by its innovative universities across the region, all of which are members of a European university alliance:

  • Université de Haute-Alsace
  • Université de Lorraine
  • Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne
  • Université de Strasbourg
  • Université de technologie de Troyes

Grand Est-Europe gathers the largest and most active R&I organisations from the region willing to cooperate on EU policies and EU-funded projects. It fosters synergies among its members and partners, and represents the grouping towards the European institutions, especially in Strasbourg and in Brussels.
