World's first 6G wireless summit organised in Finland

With 5G technology on the cusp of commercialization, Finland has already launched pioneering 6G research under the recently formed 6G Flagship Ecosystem.

According to Matti Latva-aho, 6G Flagship Director and Academy Professor from the University of Oulu, the program will have five to six strategic partners and 50-100 other collaborators. 6G Flagship has been established by the University of Oulu, Aalto University, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and the Joint Center for Future Connectivity, which is established by Nokia Bell Labs and the University of Oulu.

6G Flagship aims at maximal impact through co-creation and innovation activities with a wide international network. It invites suggestions for joint research activities, preparation of project grant proposals, realization of demonstrations, involvement in event organization, research staff exchange and similar activities. 6G Flagship experts also cooperate with public authorities through joint initiatives, program creation, consultation and preparation of reports to support policy and decision-making.

The world's first 6G Wireless Summit will be held at the Levi resort in Finnish Lapland on 24-26 March 2019. The aim of the summit is to identify the key challenges towards 6G, potential applications calling for 6G, drafting technical requirements as well as candidate technologies towards the 2030 era. The program will consist of invited speakers from leading beyond 5G and 6G research programs and initiatives around the world, including policy-makers, research institutes, operators, manufacturers and leading academics.

Complete 5G testing environment

6G Flagship also invites actors from all sectors and fields to join open co-creation in Finland's unique 5G Test Network. Located on the premises of the University of Oulu and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, the 5G Test Network (5GTN) is the world’s widest 5G testing network with open access.

Any company or organization can become a member of the 5GTN community to keep track of the latest developments or to carry out trials and experiments. 5GTN offers a complete system for testing everything from infrastructure to applications, prototype devices, new services and solutions in a controlled environment.
