Demand for fuel and power is set to keep rising strongly over the next two decades, led by the fast growing economies of China and India, projects BP

Oil is expected to remain the main source of transport fuel in 2030. But natural gas use is growing fast and renewables faster still. Demand for fuel and power is set to keep rising strongly over the next two decades, led by the rapidly growing economies of China and India, according to BP’s Energy Outlook 2030.

The outlook highlights the growing role of developing economies in global energy consumption, and the increasing share of non-fossil fuels in global energy supply. It emphasizes the central role markets and well-designed policy can play to meet the dual challenge of solving the energy needs of billions of people who aspire to better lifestyles, and doing so in a way that is sustainable and secure.

The report notes the uncertainties attached to long-term projections. The discipline of forecasting future energy supply and demand is a useful exercise, it says, but the precise numbers are less important than the underlying challenge and choices governments face in meeting future energy demand.
