EU energy template to create certainty for green investment

The European Commission has set out a template to help member states reach their renewable energy targets and provide certainty for investors.

The European Commission has set out a template for National Renewable Energy Action Plans (NREAPs) to help member states reach their renewable energy targets and provide certainty for investors in green energy technology.

Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs said the template would help member states create credible action plans to meet renewable targets and, “further contribute to a stable investment climate.”

NREAPs will outline how the mandatory target of achieving a 20 per cent share for renewables by 2020 will be met. The plans must reflect national targets for the share of energy from renewable sources that will be consumed in transport, electricity, heating and cooling, and detail policies on the development of biomass resources and biofuels. It must also elaborate on energy efficiency measures, building codes and energy infrastructure development.

Each country must submit its NREAP to the Commission by 30 June 2010 at the latest.

The template is available at: http://ec.europa.eu/energy/renewables/transparency_platform_en.htm
